Overview
Road Construction, Rush hour traffic, and traffic accidents cause significant delays, especially when there are lane closures. Highway Information Systems, Inc.(HIS) has developed a solution specifically for highway agencies, allowing them to reduce delays and frustration for motorists. The system is designed to inform motorists when they should use an alternate route and provides information about expected travel time delays. The system utilizes traffic sensors, dynamic message signs and highway advisory radios. Additionally, a web site provides information to motorists pre-planning their trip.

System Decription
The system retrieves data from traffic sensors, calculates the travel time delay, and updates the dyamic message signs, highway advisory radios and flashing beacons to reflect the current conditions. If the travel delay exceeds a user defined limit, motorists traveling in either direction are informed of the delay and a detour route is provided.
IntelliZone software provides a convenient way to monitor the system. A private web site allows agency personnel to view the information, archive the data for later evaluation, and monitor the system in the event a message override is needed. A public web site is also available to view current traffic data as well as any messages that the dynamic message signs are displaying.
