Overview
The QuadTrend 350 System is a revolutionary system designed to protect the ends of concrete barriers as a gating, redirective end treatment. The QuadTrend 350 system consists of a series of Quad-Beam TM fender panels, slip bases, a tension strap, a redirective cable and sand-filled boxes.
Meets NCHRP 350 TL-3 Redirective, Gating Performance
The QuadTrend 350 System successfully meets NCHRP 350 as a redirective, gating end treatment. During a head-on impact, the system directs the nose of the vehicle away from the hard point. For angle impacts, the vehicle is redirected back onto the roadway and away from the hazard. As a gating system, the QuadTrend 350 System requires sufficient clear zone behind the system.
Features and Benefits
- Attaches directly to rigid barrier ends, bridge rails and abutments.
- High reusability—most major components are reusable after a design impact.
- Shares components with QuadGuard System, reducing inventory costs.
- Low initial cost.
Gating Guidelines
The FHWA recommends that gating end terminals have a minimum traversable
clear zone of 22.5 m x 6 m (75’ x 20’) directly behind the terminal. This area
should be clear of trees, poles, drop-offs, oncoming traffic and other hazards
that a vehicle might encounter when it gates behind the terminal after an
angle impact at or near the nose of the system.
